CHARLOTTE -- Fighting back tears, an emotional crowd hung on Ron Kimble's every word Wednesday afternoon, as the deputy city manager and his wife Jan shared their daughter's inspiring life and tragic death.
The two were asked to speak at this year's Safe Alliance Partner Luncheon, to fight domestic violence.
Jamie Kimble, 31, was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend in Tampa, September 3 of last year. He then turned the gun on himself.
Kimble says the two were in an abusive relationship for seven years but she had recently called it off for good. He received the devastating news the first night of the Democratic National Convention.
"The irony again, is it was one of the brightest days for Charlotte but one of the darkest for us," said Ron Kimble.

Young women who were in shelters as children are now seeking protection from domestic violence situations themselves according to the 2013 Mary Kay Truth About Abuse Survey. The annual survey takes an in-depth look at domestic violence through the perspective of executive directors at women's shelters across the country. Along with the cycle of violence continuing in Generation Y, the 2013 survey reported that many women are staying in shelters for longer periods of time because of limited access to resources.

Last September started out as a time of new beginnings for Jamie Kimble '02. She had just landed a promotion working for the Coca-Cola Consolidated Company (based in Charlotte, N.C.) and was moving from Anna Maria Island, Fla., to Dallas, Texas, to become a regional sales director. Earlier in the summer, she had finally left an abusive boyfriend and found someone new from Liverpool, England. But on Sept. 3, her ex tracked her down and killed her. A few minutes later, he killed himself.
